A BULAWAYO youth organisation, Bulawayo Unemployment Youth Agenda (BUYA) has vowed to engage fast food chain Chicken Slice over its employing of people who are ‘exclusively’ from outside Matabeleland.
Speaking at a press conference held in Bulawayo recently, BUYA Chairperson, Zenzo Nyoni said time has come for people of Matabeleland to benefit from resources within their region.
“We want to engage Chicken Slice because we have realised that the majority of its employees are Shona. Our youths are not afforded the opportunity to work and we feel something needs to be done,” said Nyoni.
He also said his organisation will engage different sectors to ensure that youths in Bulawayo are given fair employment opportunities like what is happening to youths from other different regions of the country.
“Youths from Matebeleland are looking for job opportunities in South Africa and Botswana. It is high time, devolution being put into practise for the benefit of the youths and the region at large,” he added.
Nyoni also used the event to congratulate people from Maleme community for defending their land against ‘foreigners’ who wanted to benefit from resources without putting into cognisance the community surrounding them.
He said it is that kind of courage which is needed to arrest the marginalisation and underdevelopment of the Matabeleland region. Nehanda Radio.
