AN Airforce of Zimbabwe aircraft man has appeared before Harare magistrate, Milton Serima, facing a charge of allegedly murdering his female workmate on 26 April.

Blessmore Shatei, 24, of Manyame Air base, was charged with murder for purportedly killing Venencia Bokosha, 19, at Bomb Dump guard point where she was on duty that evening.

Shatei was not asked to plead when he appeared in court, Thursday.

Prosecutors say on 26 April around 1 pm Bokosha reported for duty at Bomb dump guard point at Manyame Airbase. She was armed with an AK47 with a magazine of 30 rounds and a hand held radio.

She was supposed to knock off at 6 pm that day and she also had a phone which was about to run out of power.

Bokosha did not return home after knocking off and her roommate, Linda Rudo Makaza, tried calling her several times but her number was not reachable.

According to the state, Aircraft man, Prince Maphosa, who was on guard at Technical area gate indicated that he saw Shatei going towards the Bomb Dump guard point around 6 pm dressed in his uniform and saw him again coming from that direction about an hour later.

At around 18:40 hrs, warrant officer, Trust Jaravaza said he heard a gunshot coming from the Bomb Dump guard point when he was at his house.

A check was made at this site where the half-naked body of the deceased was discovered. There was no record to indicate that the deceased had handed over the duty to the accused on the log book.

On the following morning when he was on duty again, around 6 am, Maphosa, saw the accused going towards the Bomb Dump guard point again.

This led to investigations which led to the arrest of Shatei who was found spotting on a combat jacket with blood stains and torn indicating that he had been involved in a scuffle with someone.

Prosecutors suggested a warrant for further detention as the police are yet to discover the deceased’s stolen phone. The accused is also yet to make indications on how he committed the crime at the scene.
