If love is a battlefield, as Pet Benatar sang, being single is like the the Hundred Years' War. That's why I'm into things like Match.com's Singles in America surveys.

They way it investigates singlehood makes it obvious the folks there find it fascinating and exciting, and that enthusiasm is infectious. This past weekend at the site's official 2015 Singles in America celebration, Helen Fisher, Ph.D., Match.com's chief scientific adviser, explained some of the most interesting findings. Readers, let me introduce you to "the Clooney Effect," which basically means that like George Clooney, modern guys are all about settling down with women who are more awesome than them.
Why "the Clooney Effect" Is Amazing for Your Love Life

You know how when the world's hardest-to-catch bachelor, one sir George Clooney, married Amal Alamuddin, Tina Fey said at the Golden Globes that he deserved a lifetime achievement award? Everyone was only half-jokingly scratching their heads like, this incredibly impressive human rights lawyer is settling for a Hollywood actor? There might be a golden nugget of truth behind all that jesting.

"Like George Clooney, many men seek the 'new woman'—someone who is smart, powerful, and self-sufficient," said Fisher at the event. Her study results back up that claim. A whopping 87 percent of single men surveyed would date a woman who makes "considerably more" money, is better-educated, and is more intellectual than they are. Beyond that, 86 percent of guys said they were looking for a woman who was confident and self-assured. "Today, men want an equal. It's a great step forward for humanity," said Fisher. How's that for the most empowering news you've heard all day?

In more super-inspiring research, Fisher emphasized that guys can be just as romantic, if not more so, than women. Her studies have reinforced this little-known fact. "Americans are absolutely convinced women are more romantic. Actually, men fall in love more often, and they fall in love faster. They want more public displays of affection, want to introduce their partners to friends and family sooner, and want to move in together before the woman does," said Fisher. Who knows where this "men don't want commitment" myth comes from (romantic comedies, you might deserve some of the blame), but don't let it stop you from believing that most guys are hoping to find love someday.

What are your thoughts on "the Clooney Effect"? And how about Fisher debunking that rumor that men don't want commitment? I hope both of these facts made your day as much as they did mine! Glamour
