RUMOURS are flying that the sexy presenter, Lerato Kganyago, is in the eye of a storm between the SABC and e.tv! Sunday Sun has learnt that the public broadcaster and the privately owned Hyde Park-based TV station are at war over Lerato’s services.
And as they say – all’s fair in love and war. Or is it? Insiders close to the presenter claim that e.tv wants to poach her from the SABC for a new show on the station.
“Lerato has been approached by e.tv to host her own show.
“She’ll have control over it without anyone interfering.
“But she called the SABC to tell her bosses about e.tv’s intentions with her.
“Lerato has always been loyal to the SABC, so she decided to tell them that e.tv is after her signature,” said a friend.
It’s understood she also sought advice from her industry friends last week about what to do regarding the matter.
It is ultimately a tough decision to make for a girl who is forging a career in our small TV industry.
“She’s been promised a lot of money and now she’s confused as she doesn’t know which option to choose.
“The SABC told her to stick with them.
“But on the other side, e.tv is offering her more money.
“Lerato hasn’t made a decision and doesn’t want to burn any bridges.
“She wants to leave, but due to her loyalty to her employer, she thinks she might be blacklisted because the SABC has a history of doing so.
“It’s a tricky situation,” said a friend.
It is alleged that e.tv wants to poach Lerato to host a new show, as Masechaba Lekalake is apparently on her way out.
Masechaba is hosting Ek Sê: Let’s Talk on e.tv. When Sunday Sun contacted Lerato this week, she didn’t confirm or deny anything. She said: “I can’t comment on the matter now.
“I’m focusing on my show, The Link, on SABC1. At this stage the SABC is my family.”
SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago this week said:
“I’m not aware of the matter you’re raising.
“But we, don’t discuss contractual issues in public.”
Publicist at e.tv, Andrew Ledwaba, was not available for comment despite several attempts to reach him.
