A Metro policeman is under investigation for allegedly demanding sex from prostitutes operating along Durban’s Point precinct – then filming them against their will in explicit sexual positions.
The footage was discovered by the officer’s now former girlfriend after she opened the files on two BlackBerry memory cards she said she found in one of her jackets.
The footage shows the constable filming himself having sex with at least five different prostitutes, during which he forces them to reveal their private parts to the camera.
Most of the video clips are believed to have been filmed while the officer was working the night shift.
Some of the footage was shot in what is believed to be a warehouse, while another clip is believed to have been shot in his patrol car. In a separate clip, according to senior officers who have viewed the video, it was shot in the toilets of a metro police satellite office.

The ex-girlfriend handed the footage over to the metro police’s Anti-Corruption Unit eight weeks ago. The woman, who has since moved out of the Phoenix home she shared with the policeman, said she was disgusted by the images and wanted justice to take its course.
“He has abused his authority as a policeman and has subjected these women to vile things. We are supposed to be celebrating Women’s Month, but he has, while working for taxpayers, been abusing women’s rights,” she said.
The officer could not be reached for comment on Monday.
The footage, too graphic to publish, shows some of the prostitutes performing acts on the policeman while he records them.
Many of the women are visibly uncomfortable with being filmed and ask him to stop. In one instance, a woman who realised she was being filmed, leapt from the car before the footage ended.
In one of the clips, the officer is heard speaking to a male companion by name, possibly a colleague.
Senior metro police sources say the footage threatens to open the door on wider police corruption in the Point area, including the solicitation of prostitutes who are forced into having sex or are being robbed by officers.
The six video clips are from 20 seconds to a minute long.
In all the clips the officer tells the women to expose themselves.
In one of the clips he asks the prostitute to pull aside her underwear and tells his male companion to “check here”. The woman, clearly uncomfortable with being filmed, tries to push the camera away. She then blocks her face.
In another clip a woman pleads with him to stop filming and tries to hit the camera away. He tells her:
“I am going to pay for it.”
She replies: “F*** you. You only give me half in any case.”
The officer’s former girlfriend said she handed the footage over in the hope that action would be taken and was angry that the investigation had seemingly stalled.
She said it had been a nightmare since discovering the videos in July.
“I worshipped this man with all my heart and loved the fact that he was so religious. When I discovered his dark side, it felt like a nightmare. I still feel as if I am in this nightmare,” she said. “He is sworn to protect and serve the community, but when he goes on shift he gets up to all kinds of nonsense. When he worked the night shift I would actually worry about his safety and little did I know he was actually doing these things to prostitutes.”
She was afraid that he may have endangered her life and was worried about picking up a sexually transmitted disease. She had been tested for HIV and would need another test in three months time.
Metro police spokesman, Eugene Msomi, confirmed an internal investigation had been opened.
He admitted that progress in the investigation had been slow, but said they did not want to “compromise quality”.
Asked if the investigation would look into wider corruption, Msomi said that would be determined by the internal investigation.
On whether the metro police was investigating the possibility that he may have filmed the prostitutes with a colleague, as a second male voice is heard on one of the clips, Msomi said: “I am not at liberty to comment on the nature of the investigation save (to say that) everything brought forward by the complainant will be investigated.”
