A man was arrested after he was found driving a car without a steering wheel.Police officers were stunned when they stopped a car for erratic driving and found a man driving his car with pliers instead of a steering wheel.
The 38-year-old man was driving the broken down car without its steering wheel and both front wheels were busted. Pliers were clamped around the steering column and were used to steer the vehicle.
Police believe that the man has been involved in a hit and run accident, and in an attempt to flee from the scene he used pliers to drive away.
The driver was arrested after driving without due care and driving in a dangerous manner, as driving without a steering wheel renders the car unsafe to drive. He was charged with a number of violations including driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
In addition, the man tested positive for methamphetamines and cannabis, which explained his erratic driving.
Recently, police in Australia have set up ‘Operation distraction’, an initiative that was implemented statewide, where police cracked down on drivers, who use their cell phone or those who do not wear seat belts, while driving. They had very good results after more than 1,700 drivers were stopped for these offenses.
