Mliswa is facing charges of allegedly possessing illegal weapons.

Lawyers representing Mliswa were also fined $50 or 5 days in prison for contempt of court after arriving at the magistrate courts late.

The lawyers Musindo Dunira Hungwe and Charles Chinyama, who were supposed to attend court session in the morning, came to court in the afternoon thereby inviting the ire of provincial magistrate Ignatius Mugova who slapped them with a fine of $50 each or 5 days in prison.

The two lawyers opted to pay the fine.

The lawyers are defending the lawmaker on allegations for theft of eight fire arms – comprising of six rifles and two shotguns – allegedly stolen from a white commercial farmer, Myles Walter Hall, in 2002.

On Mliswa’s bail hearing the state led by prosecutor Herald Matura argued that he was not a candidate for bail.

The state claimed that he might interfer with the state witness, a Mashiri, who is Mliswa’s employee, and that investigations are underway to establish the whereabouts of two missing firearms from the 8 allegedly stolen from the farmer.

But Mliswa’s lawyers argued that the former Zanu PF provincial boss was once given bail by the same court from a previous case and he resides in Borrowdale, Harare. VOA
