A woman opened a cafe to support her family, but sadly, people walk out as soon as they see a black woman behind the counter. The cafe owner became so frustrated over the alleged racism that she hung a sign on the door warning customers before they enter that she is black.

Martha Renee Kolleh, 46, said she is sick of people walking out of her cafe called “Yeanon Cafe” in Ossett, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, when they see the color of her skin.

She hung the sign on the front door, which reads: “Attention! Everyone be aware I am a black woman, and always will be. If you are allergic to black people please don’t come in. However, if you prefer quality wholesome meals in a pleasant and clean environment, come in. I don’t bite!”

Kolleh said that some people think it is funny and they support her, while others just read the sign and walk away.
Before Kolleh hung the sign on her door, she made sure that the reason people left her cafe was because she was black.
She hired a white woman to stand behind the counter to take orders, sure enough, business went well.

Figures for ethnicity from the 2001 Census show that 98.9 percent of the town’s population were recorded as white.
Local Labor councilor Tony Richardson said he was “totally shocked” to see the sign. “I am absolutely sure that there is no such problem in Ossett,” he said.

The single mother of three children has run the cafe for two years. Kolleh, who is originally from Liberia, Africa, has lived in Britain for the past 11 years with her daughter Pertetual, 16, and two sons, James-Earl, 18, and 12-year-old Israel.

“My family and I try to make our customers feel welcomed. I keep this place clean and serve good food. I cannot see any other reason for people to decide they do not want to eat here,” Kolleh said.
