ZANU PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, has claimed that followers of the ousted former Vice President Joice Mujuru “are coming back to the party”.

Kasukuwere also dismissed claims the party had baulked at the idea of recalling and disciplining some 100 of its legislators thought to have backed an alleged bid by Mujuru to illegally topple President Robert Mugabe.

Said the Zanu PF commissariat chief: “One hundred people who are supposed to be disciplined by the party, where are the charges?

“Who brought the charges to them? And there is this belief that Mai Mujuru has lots of people; Vapiko (where are they)?”

Announcing his party’s candidates for the Mount Darwin West and Chirumanzu Zibangwe constituency by-elections in Harare Tuesday, Kasukuwere said Mujuru had even been ditched by her own brother who contested the recent party primaries.

“Even those who thought that they might have followers if they started making statements against the party they are getting surprised,” he said.

“Even their children are saying aah iwe gara wega ndiri kudzokera kuZanu PF (quit if you want, I’m returning to Zanu PF).”

“Even on the Mashonaland Central list, a young Mugari; VP Mujuru’s brother made his application to contest in Mount Darwin on a Zanu PF party ticket. So which other political party can you talk of here in Zimbabwe?”

Mujuru’s brother Lloyd Mugari was however blocked by Zanu PF from contesting the primaries.

On the eve of the vote, Mashonaland Central provincial chair, Dickson Mafios, told the election directorate that Mugari had been disqualified.

Despite speculation that Mujuru and her group might form a splinter party, the former vice president as indicated that she would remain in Zanu PF and reaffirmed her loyalty to Mugabe.

Still, Kasukuwere said those not happy with the new dispensation in the ruling could leave.

“There is this belief that Mai Mujuru has lots of people,” he said.

“Members of parliament who are aligned or who supports Zanu PF are in the party.

“What we are saying is that if anybody does not want to belong to Zanu PF they are free to resign. Those who remain in the party know that they are members of Zanu PF.

“Those who have been disciplined because of what they did and accepted their (fate) continue to be members of the party.”
