Prophet Magaya and an assessment of modern day Holy Ground

HARARE. – It is believed that wherever two or more people gather in God’s name, He will always be present, meaning that, everywhere we meet there is a guarantee of the presence of the Holy Spirit. So, is it proper or wrong to label other places Holy Ground where people congregate to receive deliverance.

The Holy Ground is identified with the biblical era when Moses was instructed by God to remove his shoes because he was standing in a holy place. There, he encountered a burning bush which was symbolising the presence of God. Moses then followed the command without further questioning. However, some cultic movements have taken it upon themselves to feature this as an eleventh commandment.

The white garment worshipers are synonymous with shrines which are commonly visited, especially during the night to receive deliverance in the form of prayers, while some women have claimed to have been abused in these places. The so-called shrines are labeled holy that is not allowed to wear shoes, carry cash or people identified as unholy are prohibited from entering the site at all cost. Anyone who surpass this ‘commandment’ can defrocked because it is an abomination. The problem is: aren’t we creating a cultic tendencies by classifying some places Holy Ground.
Prophet Walter Magaya, the founder of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries has one such place. They have the temerity to call their site: “our visitors have been on the Holy Ground for more healing and deliverance. The Holy Ground is synonymous to the biblical Sheep Gate, a pool which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda where people both the sick and the afflicted entered in order to receive healing and deliverance [John.5:1-7].”

Naming their places with the same as in the bible also brings into the fold the question of authenticity. When people are guaranteed of healing and deliverance, if it does not happen, then who is answerable? We believe that healing and deliverance comes by faith and there are no shortcuts. Then is this statement not a marketing strategy to draw people to different churches in the guise of prolific healing, deliverance and promise of prosperity.

The statement further sates that, “the differences are that our Holy Ground contains anointed sand instead of water and also that many people can get onto the Holy ground at the same time. We have seen several people manifesting with demons the moment they get onto the Holy ground without being laid hands upon by the man of God while others start vomiting strange stuff as their deliverance take place. Many have given several testimonies because of the Holy Ground.”

Magaya has dubbed one of his places Holy Ground. But can we affiliate a place as holy if someone vomits or manifests in a place. We have seen this occurring in many other places besides these Holy Ground. If God can appear in many places other places, then why do we have to have a special place where we can commune with God? If a church does not have a Holy Ground, can they experience God’s presence in other sets? Are we not redefining the act of the Holy Spirit by calling other places holy, while some are regarded as normal, or it all depends on the spiritual gift embedded in an individual? – Salvation Press News (SPN).
