HARARE - President Robert Mugabe flew to Addis Ababa today to attend the 24th ordinary session of the African Union.

He is due to be enthroned AU chairman at the summit.

Mugabe, who returned from his annual holiday in the Far East last week before proceeding to the inauguration of the newly elected Zambian president Edgar Lungu, left moments after attending his Zanu PF’s politiburo meeting this afternoon.

The AU summit is being held under the theme: ‘2015 Year of Women Empowerment and Development’.

The summit will also receive updates on the progress that has taken place in the fight against Ebola, the establishment of the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the AU Agenda 2063, the AU’s peace and security activities, the situation in the Middle East and other matters.

Mugabe was seen off at the Harare International Airport by chief secretary to the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda, minister of State for Harare province, Mirriam Chikukwa, and service chiefs. Daily News
