HIGH Court judge Justice Garainesu Mawadze yesterday dismissed a bail application by a 32-year-old Harare tout, Marvellous Kandemiri, who last year allegedly undressed a woman at a city bus terminus alleging she was indecently dressed.
SENIOR COURT REPORTER
Justice Mawadze said Kandemiri was facing a serious offence and could be convicted judging from the video footage provided by the State as part of its evidence.
The alleged video recording went viral on social media drawing the ire of several pressure groups that have described the incident as barbaric.
According to court papers, the incident occurred on December 12 last year when the woman arrived at Fourth Street bus terminus on her way to Ruwa.
It is alleged when Kandemiri saw her, he ordered her to come to where he was, but she refused and ignored him, prompting him to label her a prostitute. He allegedly whistled inviting his colleagues, who are still at large, and publicly undressed her.
The court heard that the woman eventually managed to get into a commuter omnibus where she was charged $2 to be driven to safety. Edmore Makoto appeared for the State.
