Vice President Joice Mujuru and her so called ‘hangers on’ are possibly out of Zanu PF after the party’s 6th National People’s Congress approved constitutional amendments that call for the expulsion of any party member found to be disloyal or treacherous.
Zanu PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa read the proposed constitutional amendements, dropping the bombshell on the embattled VP Mujuru faction that stands accused of plotting to unseat President Robert Mugabe.
If VP Mujuru and other alleged coup plotters; Cde Didymus Mutasa, Cde Nicholas Goche and Cde Ray Kaukonde, among others, are indeed expelled, they will follow Cde Rugare Gumbo and former war veterans leader, Cde Jabulani Sibanda in the political wilderness.
An amendment on those booted out of the party courtesy of a vote of no confidence was also passed, with Cde Mnangagwa indicating that any member who suffers the fate on the grounds of incompetence and negligence of duty will be suspended from the party for five years.
The constitutional amendments spell doom on the ousted party members, among them provincial chairpersons: Cde Jason Machaya (Midlands), Cde Ray Kaukonde (Mashonaland East), Cde Andrew Langa (Mat South), Cde Themba Mliswa (Mash West), Ambassador John Shumba Mvundura (Manicaland), Cde Callisto Gwanesta (Masvingo), Cde Miriam Chikukwa (Harare) and Cde Luke Mushore (Mash Central), who all received votes of no confidence.
Those found guilty of corruption and criminal misconduct will be jailed for at least six months, and the predicament could fall Vice President Mujuru if corruption allegations against her are to be proved.
She is accused of extortion, where she would allegedly demand 10 percent in most companies as protection fund.
The Zanu PF congress also approved a constitutional amendment, empowering the First Secretary and President of the party to appoint his deputies in accordance with the 1987 Unity Accord signed between Zanu PF and PF ZAPU.
President Mugabe, who was endorsed to lead the party at the congress, will also be empowered to appoint the party’s National Chairperson.
