The newly-installed Vice Presidents and ministers have been urged to work towards the fulfilment of Government’s policies and objectives to ensure an improvement in the people’s standard of living.
President Mugabe yesterday swore in Vice Presidents Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko and other ministers that included Minister of Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, Former Political Detainees and Restrictees, Christopher Mutsvangwa; Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Priscah Mupfumira; Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Oppah Muchinguri; Information Communication Technology and Courier Services Minister Supa Mandiwanzira; Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister, Christopher Mushohwe; Energy and Power Development Minister Samuel Undenge; Minister of State for Mashonaland East Province, Joel Biggie Matiza; Minister of State for Manicaland Province, Mandi Chimene and Deputy Minister of Energy and Power Development, Tsitsi Muzenda.
President of the Chiefs Council, Chief Fortune Charumbira, said as traditional leaders they were behind the President and his new appointments.
“We support the action that has been taken by the President and we hope that the new appointees will work towards the fulfilment of the common good and not personal interests like what was beginning to happen.
“They should know that they are servants of the people and once they deviate from that the people will not hesitate to remove them. They should carry out the duties given to them and be grateful for what they have achieved and not to grow big headed to think they are bigger than the people,” Chief Charumbira said.
AAG president Mr Chamu Chiwanza, welcomed the appointments saying recent events in Zanu PF called for a change of personnel and urged Minister Mushohwe to urgently expedite the implementation of the indigenisation policy that formed the basis of the ruling party’s manifesto in last year’s elections.
“We welcome the new team that has been appointed and hope they will all contribute to the attainment of Government’s objectives to uplift the standards of living.
“As an empowerment lobby group we welcome the appointment of Minister Mushowe, its a welcome development as he brings a lot of experience in dealing with youths as he has been handling the Presidential Scholarship fund that has seen a lot of youths being empowered academically through the efforts of the President.
“We also believe that he will bring new impetus in the implementation of the indigenisation and economic empowerment programme that had lost steam during the tenure of former minister Francis Nhema,” he said.
Mr Chiwanza added that the Zanu PF manifesto hinged on empowering the generality of the populace and urged Minister Mushowe to ensure that the promise was fulfilled.
“The world over, anything to do with empowerment is never given on a silver platter but taken. Therefore the new minister has to ensure that the programme is enunciated in the Zanu-PF manifesto is implemented to the letter so that the promises of the ruling party are fulfilled.
“The whole country is watching to see whether the promises that were made would be fulfilled so we hope Minister Mushowe will work towards the empowerment of people especially the youths, most of whom are unemployed and require resources to start their own income generating projects,” Mr Chiwanza said.
Cde Philip Chiyangwa bemoaned the time wasted by inept Government officials who delayed the implementation of Zim-Asset.
“Ever since the former team was sworn in by the President, time has been wasted by people who were seeking to oust him. But time is money.
“Each and every one who has become a minister has to take up the role and execute service delivery. We are now looking forward to a successful implementation of Zim-Asset by people who have our interests at heart. People should not be pursuing selfish interests but what the majority want.
“Government is a facilitator; ministers are facilitators so they have to deliver to the people,” Cde Chiyangwa said.
Zanu-PF Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Kudzanayi Chipanga, said the new appointments were a fulfilment of the wishes of the just ended Zanu-PF 6th National People’s Congress.
“What happened in our just ended congress has been fulfilled today.
The President has put confidence in us young people and business community by saying no to corruption.
“We appreciate the stance taken by the President by appointing new vice presidents and new ministers after the former had been a disappointment.
We are rest assured that our president is safe as he is surrounded by loyal, tried and tested cadres,” said Cde Chipanga. Herald
