Sharon Macheso’s husband Kudakwashe Munetsi was yesterday issued with a warrant of arrest after he failed to pay the $200 fine for the charges of assault he was convicted of last month.Munetsi, who was supposed to have paid the $200 fine by or on November 17, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Takunda Mtetwa.
Mr Mtetwa highlighted that he expected Munetsi’s lawyers to have advised him to pay the fine before the deadline to avoid wasting the courts’ time. He also noted that Munetsi’s rebellious actions were attracting a stiffer penalty.
“You were being represented by a senior lawyer and as such I expected him to have advised you on the consequences of failing to pay fine,” he said.
However, after advising Munetsi to take court matters seriously, Mr Mtetwa ordered him to pay a default fee of $20 and the $200 fine forthwith.
Munetsi, through his lawyer Mr Abisha Muzvaba of C. Mutsahuni Chikore and Partners, indicated that he had gone to his rural home in Murehwa for rehabilitation and counselling after his conviction.
Mr Muzvaba told the court that Munetsi had allegedly sent his brother Tatenda Munetsi to pay the fine, but Tatenda had paid the $200 at the legal practitioners instead of the courts.
Prosecutor Mr George Manokore interjected and indicated that Munetsi and his lawyer were giving lame excuses and this clearly indicated that Munetsi willingly neglected to pay the fine. The Herald
