Three robbers reportedly broke into a house in Domboshava on Tuesday night and killed the owner before fleeing with electrical goods, clothes and shoes worth over us$1 000.
The three went on to tie the man’s wife who had come to investigate after she had heard noises in the house.
Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza yesterday said was still to greceive a report on the crime.
It is alleged that Robert Takamanikwa of Chogugudza Village under Chief Chinamhora died on the spot after he was struck with an unknown object on the head by one of the robbers.
Close sources who spoke to the deceased’s wife said the three robbers forcibly gained entry into the house by cutting the screen door using a bolt cutter.
“Tamanikwa was awakened by noise from the screen door which was cut off prompting him to go and investigate,” said the sources.
“As he was walking in the passage it is alleged that he met the three, who immediately attacked him and tied his hands and legs before striking his head with an unknown object.
“After the assault Takamanikwa fell unconscious on the floor and died on the spot.”
The three went on to tie the hands and legs of Takamanikwa’s wife identified as Dambudzo Chogugudza, who also had been awakened by the noise. They went on to steal electrical goods, clothes and shoes before disappearing into the darkness.
Dambudzo managed to untie herself and reported the matter at Chinamhora Police Station who attended the scene and took Chogugudza’s body to Makumbe Hospital mortuary for a post- mortem. The Herald
