Police have recovered a mutilated human head along a dust road in Kutama, Zvimba, in a suspected murder case. This comes as two more people died in separate road accidents countrywide on Monday, bringing the festive season traffic accidents death toll since December 15 to 88.
National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi, said the human head was found on Christmas Day.
“We are still appealing to the public to assist with information, which may lead to the identification and establish leads in a case where a human head comprising a right cheek, half chin, right eye, full nose, lower jaw and protruding tongue which was found lying at the centre of Mabvure-Masiyarwa dust road in Kutama on Christmas Day,” he said.
Chief Supt Nyathi said the human head was taken to Father O’hea Hospital mortuary in Kutama.
“Anyone with information may contact Officer-in-Charge ZRP Kutama, any nearest Police Station or the National Complaints Desk on telephone number (04) 703631,” he said.
Chief Sup Nyathi said 630 people were injured in 1 128 road accidents recorded during this festive season.
Last year, 81 people died while 487 others were injured in 908 road accidents recorded during the same period.
Chief Supt Nyathi said they had impounded 2 608 unroadworthy vehicles and issued 111 066 tickets to motorists for various traffic offences.
Most accidents have been attributed to speeding, overtaking errors, lack of judgment by drivers and failure to give way.
“As the New Year draws closer, the Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to urge the travelling public to continue exercising caution and safe guard life on the road,” he said.
Meanwhile, Police have arrested, Yeukai Rwodzi (28) on allegations of masquerading as a police officer.
“The case occurred on 29th December, 2014 along Robert Mugabe Road, Harare. The accused who was conspicuously dressed in “shabby” police uniform was confronted by police details. The details interviewed him thoroughly and they established that he was a bogus police officer,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.
He said the accused implicated his accomplice only known as Chiriga whom he was supposed to meet at a bar in the CBD.
“The accused revealed that he and his accomplice had been arresting and extorting money from commuter omnibuses for the past seven days. We want to alert the public to be aware of such criminal elements who masquerade as police officers,” he said. Herald
