Zanu-PF’s Mashonaland West provincial executive has overturned the suspension of Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa and Hurungwe Senator Cde Rueben Marumahoko on grounds that due process was not followed when they were suspended.
The two were suspended by the executive led by former provincial chairman Cde Temba Mliswa for allegedly failing to attend meetings in contravention of the party’s constitution, which states that members should not miss three consecutive sittings without giving notice.
Provincial secretary for administration, Cde Kindness Paradza, said the executive noted that the two were summarily dismissed by Cde Mliswa without being afforded an opportunity to defend themselves.
“The executive rescinded its earlier decision to suspend Cde Marumahoko and Cde Mutsvangwa and noted that the two did not appear before a disciplinary committee to defend themselves,” he said. “It was felt that the then chairman Cde Mliswa got personal in dealing with the issue.”
The executive meeting also lifted the suspension of Youth League chairman Cde Vengai Musengi, whom some members of his executive wanted dismissed despite his suspension being lifted by President Mugabe. Some sections of the press maintained that Cde Musengi had been suspended for alleged impropriety.
On Cde Mutsvangwa, the provincial executive considered that he failed to attend the meetings owing to pressing commitments in Government as the deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting also set November 29 as the tentative date for the provincial inter-district conference ahead of the National People’s Congress early next month, while the committees set up to spearhead preparations for congress gave their reports.
“We will start with a provincial co-ordinating committee meeting at the weekend where hopefully the dates for the provincial inter-district conference will be finalised,” said Cde Paradza. “We received reports from the congress committees on progress so far as we prepare for congress.” Herald
