The Zanu PF Manicaland provincial executive has passed a vote of no confidence in the leadership of chairman Ambassador John Shumba Mvundura, his deputy Retired Brigadier General Elliot Kasu and the Secretary for Commissariat Retired Major James Kaunye.
The province passed a vote on no confidence in the three accusing them of allegedly pursuing a factional agenda that undermines the authority of the President.
Secretary for Finance Dr Samuel Undenge has been assigned to be the acting provincial chairperson.
In announcing the decision which was arrived at by the Zanu PF Manicaland provincial executive members, provincial secretary for information and publicity Cde Supa Mandiwanzira, who was in the company of Cde Joseph Mujati said the majority of provincial executive members appended their signatures in support of the decision.
Cde Mandiwanzira said while the people of Manicaland noted the Politburo decision in which the provincial chairman Ambassador Mvundura was reprimanded, the majority of the provincial executive have unanimously agreed to pass a vote of no confidence.
He said after the provincial council meeting, the trio was found severely responsible for pursuing a factional agenda in the leadership of the province by undermining the authority of the First Secretary and President of Zanu PF Cde Robert Mugabe.
The trio has also been accused of failing to condemn the bussing of rowdy youths who tried to disrupt First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe’s rally at Sakubva stadium in October. Cde Mandiwanzira said Ambassador Mvundura, Cde Kasu and Cde Kaunye sanctioned the gathering of a small group of former freedom fighters led by expelled member Jabulani Sibanda at Matumba Six where he threatened to march to State House.
The provincial council, allege that Dr Mvundura mobilised party leadership to attend the meeting which was addressed by Jabulani Sibanda in which he threatened violence against Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services officials and attacked the First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe. The provincial council noted that Ambassador Mvundura has failed to disassociate himself from Jabulani Sibanda’s utterances privately or publicly.
Dr Mvundura is also alleged to have doctored the inter-district resolutions for Nyanga and Mutasa district in order to manipulate provincial resolutions for congress.
Ambassador Mvundura is also accused of endorsing the rowdy youths who were bussed to denounce senior party leadership at the provincial coordination committee meeting which was last held at Mary Mount.
Cde Mvundura, Retired Brigadier General Kasu and Retired Major Kaunye have also been accused of holding kangaroo meetings to discuss provincial issues outside the official structures, thereby fuelling divisions in the party.
The trio is also accused of intimidating the party provincial leadership and embarrassing them at each provincial meeting.
