Sungura Musician Alick Macheso insists that he is not satisfied with the paternity tests results which confirmed him as the father to two children with his former wife, Fortunate ‘Tafadzwa’ Mapako.

This came out in his application for downward variation of maintenance at the Harare Civil court yesterday where a number of factors were cited.

He cited the involvement of a Mr Mapako in the conducting of the tests, which he claimed can not be mere coincidence. In his application for downward variation,Macheso argued that the prevailing economic conditions are not favourable to his line of trade and have affected his earnings.

His Lawyer, Mugiya argued that business is a ‘fortunistic’ business, based on fortune that people choose to or not to attend shows. He further argued that the rainy season has an impact on the music business as musical shows are held at open venues which will have an impact on the earnings.

In his application, Macheso indicated that Fortunate was living a fancy lifestyle which was published in the media and was now making monthly earnings of USD 1200.
It is said there was an interception of a text message in which Fortunate was texting her friend saying that she is able to look after herself but still wanted the money from the musician just to fix him.

Mugiya further submitted it is the duty of both parties to contribute towards the welfare of the children.

Fortunate through her lawyers have described Macheso’s application as ‘frivolous, unsubstantiated and speculative’! She argued that the speculative grounds do not justify the variations as they do not constitute changed circumstances. She argued that Macheso has not provided evidence to show his income has changed. She claimed she was still unemployed and that Macheso was misleading the court yet he had no evidence.

Magistrate Mr Muvhami, set the matter to Wednesday for ruling on the application.

Meanwhile Macheso appears to have penned a new song about the turmoils in his private life. The seasoned musician who has been sampling new tracks from his much awaited new album introduced new verses to his fans who attended his show at the New Life Night club in Budiriro on Friday night.

It could not be established if the song is just meant for the forthcoming album or it’s just artistry when staging live shows. Macheso s just giving snippets of the new song in fear of piracy following the selling of a fake CD in the streets with songs which were recorded during live shows.

Before going to the playlist of the night, he sang, “Vandisunga mbira dzakondo, havana tsitsi havana Nyasha…chavanogona kuparadza, chavo kupwanyira pasi vaparadza dzinza rese.”

Though the vocals were being led by Elton Muropa, Machesolooked familiar with the lyrics and could be heard backing Muropa while strumming his bass guitar.

The new lins wowed the crowd and he (Macheso) went on to cheer Muropa much to the delight of the crowd.

The singer has appeared in the media for wrong reasons for the better part of this year and being known for penning songs related to his life experiences, the new lines can be linked to his current quagmires.

It’s likely that the new lines are directed at the media for covering everything happening in his life,it’s also possible however that the salvo could be directed at Ex wife Tafadzwa and her enthusiasts.

Macheso complemented the new lines with the song Kuhwereketa in which he encourages people to remain silent in the face of provocations. IHarare
