THREATS and insults from a small house forced a Mutare Teachers' College lecturer to seek a protection order from the courts.
Lovemore Baipai last Friday dragged his small house, a mother of one, to Mutare Civil Court seeking a protection order following threats and visits to his workplace and home from his girlfriend, Felitas Gowero.
The two appeared before Mrs Sekai Chipanga and Govero dismissed Baipai's claims.
"All that is written in the affidavit are lies. I have never gone to his workplace demanding money. I always go there when I have a real need.
"I don't know his wife, so for him to say that I threatened his wife is a lie. I am opposing the application because he will take it as an advantage to neglect his child. If he cannot take care of the child now, what more when a protection order is issued against me?
"So I ask the court not to grant him the protection order because it will be his ticket out of responsibility," said Gowero.
Baipai was not in agreement with what his mistress was saying.
"For long I have been living in fear of this woman who constantly asks for money and threatens me. Sometimes she calls during midnight demanding sex yet she knows I have a wife.
"She also comes to my workplace harassing everyone she meets, even a vendor whose spot is near my office. As we speak, my Head of Department has since expressed great reservations about her conduct which has affected my work.
"Above all, my wife does not know that I have another child.
"This woman was once my 'small house', but now that things are not working she resorts to threatening me. A protection order is my road to peace. I am now ready to tell my wife about this child," said Baipai.
Mrs Chipanga told Gowero to apply for maintenance to take care of the child than troubling Baipai, a married man.
A five-year protection order was granted with conditions that Gowero will not harass or threaten Baipai and will not visit him at his place of residence and workplace.
