A 31-year-old man has appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima on Friday facing charges of raping his 15-year-old girlfriend . Prosecutor Ms Sharon Mashavira opposed bail for the man arguing that he was a flight risk since he was facing a serious offence and was also likely to interfere with the ongoing police investigations.
The man was remanded in custody to October 30 when his trial is scheduled to start and Mr Serima advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
Ms Mashavira told the court that on September 14 the girl was invited to the boyfriend’s house and since they were dating the girl willingly accepted. It is alleged that while the lovebirds were watching television, the man asked for sexual favours but the girl turned him down.
Irked that his request had been turned down, the man then raped her.
The court was told that the girl reported the matter to her cousin who subsequently took her to the police.
They arrested the man on rape charges.
