ZANU PF legislator Temba Mliswa has dismissed cabinet ministers Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere and President Robert Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwawo as gay gangsters.
The salvo comes as infighting in the divided ruling party spikes ahead of its December elective congress.
Mliswa called a press conference in Harare Monday where he claimed Kasukuwere, Moyo and Zhuwawo – all Zanu PF politburo members – were gay gangsters on the payroll of America’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
“I will prove it. It’s the whole crew. We will not allow the party to be run by gay gangsters. They are constantly loaded with money because the CIA funds them,” he said.
Mliswa was reacting to allegations that he was one of the Zanu PF legislators who allegedly took money from the US embassy and was working with embassy staffer, Eric Little, who the state media claimed is the CIA’s man in Harare.
But the Hurungwe West MP said western countries have been funding development programmes in Zimbabwe for years and wondered why some in Zanu PF suddenly thought this was now a problem.
“I am not naïve. The Americans and the British have been running programmes in Zimbabwe for the past 34 years. Why has that become an issue now? I am a legislator and one of my roles is to represent my people,” he said.
Mliswa, also Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland West province, has been particularly furious with Moyo, accusing the minister of using his control of the state media to attack him.
“Let me also put it on record that Professor Moyo is more CIA than me because he ran Ford Foundation in Kenya where he stole money and was forgiven,” Mliswa said at the weekend.
“Who is a CIA agent, the one who ran a fund or me . . . who just received? Let’s not make things out of nothing.”
He added: “There is nothing amiss about the US funding projects that help the ordinary people; they are allowed by Government. Let’s not play cheap politics.
“We know it’s a few months before the (Zanu PF) congress and people are plotting a coup against me. It’s a witch-hunt.”
