MARANGE – President Robert Mugabe has hailed the Johane Marange Apostolic Church for being an example of true unifying, dedicated and united believers who follow the principles and commandments of their denomination to the minute details as well as promoting education.
In a speech read on his behalf by Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Chris Mushohwe at the church’s Passover Convention at Mafararikwa Shrine in Marange last Saturday attended by more than 200 000 pilgrims from across Africa, President Mugabe pledged to work together with the church in all areas of their needs.
“You are a true church who lead by example and ‘walk your talk’. You declared here and prophesied the resounding victory of Zanu-PF over MDC factions in the 31st July 2013 harmonised elections, a few weeks earlier.
“You advised me to go and have peaceful sleep.
“Yes, your prophecy came out undiluted and as predicted. Thanks for your resolute support to Zanu-PF,” said President Mugabe. He said it was his hope that other African churches in the country would share the Johane Marange Apostolic Church’s vision for education.
“I am equally elated by your commitment as an African church to demonstrate the provision of equal educational opportunity to both the boy and girl child through your resolve to establish first class schools,” said President Mugabe.
The church has completed the construction of one of the best schools in Manicaland, St Noah College, which has an enrolment from Grade One to Form Six.
Besides St Noah College, the church has established another school, St Makebo Primary Schoool in Marange while preparing to establish another school in Nyanga.
The church’s ultimate goal is to have its own university. While it has made tremendous strides in the education sector, the church has also excelled in agriculture as evidenced by the bumper harvests it always has at its Chipinge farm.
“It is equally heartening to hear that you are optimally utilising the piece of land offered to your church under the land reform programme in Chipinge, earning your church annual field day championships for the four consecutive years since 2011.
“Your church gives my Government hope and encouragement in its resolve to empower its indigenous communities,” said Mugabe.
He said Government relies on the church to provide spiritual guidance, morality and sense of honesty to people, especially children.
‘‘We expect the church to condemn ills such as corruption, child abuse, violence, hooliganism and satanism.
“The world of today is turning into the biblical “Sodom and Gomorrah”, in which the diabolical Western value systems are imported into our countries in Africa. Homosexuality, sodomy and moral decadence should not be allowed to take root in Zimbabwe. The church must preach against these vices,” said President Mugabe.
He said the church should join Government in building a wholesome society.
President Mugabe expressed gratitude to High Priest Noah Taguta and the whole church for their prayers and gifts they gave to their daughter Bona at her wedding with Simba Chikore recently. Manica Post
