A henpecked man from Muzondo Village, Ward 8 in Chief Chivi’s area axed his wife to death on Monday morning allegedly after the wife had questioned him for coming home late.

Assistant Police Spokesperson for Masvingo Nkululeko Nduna confirmed the incident and urged families to resolve their disputes peacefully. He urged those with burning differences to approach other people in the family, church elders or the police.
However, other people said the deceased Lilian Simbayi (46) is alleged to have tormented her hubby Wilson Muzondo for a long time by assaulting and harassing him. The last straw was when the hubby came back home in the wee hours of Monday and the wife confronted and wanted to beat him up.

Sources said it was then that the henpecked hubby said enough is enough and pulled out an axe and struck his wife with it on the head.
“It is true that Muzondo has killed his wife Amai Grace (Simbayi) and as we speak right now he had fled from the scene and a manhunt has since been launched. People are just gathered at his home stead, waiting for the Police to come and carry out investigations,” said the source.

The source alleged that the wife was violent and constantly beat his husband; a move that he alleged could have triggered the husband to axe her.

Another source which also requested anonymity said the whole village was still in a state of shock over the incident.
“This is the first incident in the area and people are still wondering why Muzondo killed his wife and as we speak right now a sombre atmosphere has engulfed the whole village,” she said.
