Zimbabwe will be the centre of SADC activities from August 2014 to August 2015, with President Robert Mugabe assuming the chairmanship of the 15-member regional grouping next month.President Mugabe became Deputy Chair of SADC in Lilongwe, Malawi, during the 33rd summit. In that capacity, he chaired an extraordinary summit of the organisation when current chair, Malawi, could not attend.
President Mugabe will remain in the top leadership of the grouping until 2016 as a member of the SADC troika in his capacity as outgoing chairman of the group.
Briefing journalists on the coming SADC summit to be hosted by Zimbabwe in Victoria Falls, Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said preparations for the 34th ordinary summit of the bloc are on course with some 450 delegates expected to attend.
