Bidvest Wits could lose their Zimbabwean striker Benjamin ‘Benjani’ Mwaruwari before the start of next season as it is unclear if he will return to the team.

The Students coach Gavin Hunt told Goal that he’s not sure if the former Portsmouth and Manchester City forward would still be with them next season.

“I’d be lying if I can say I know what’s going to happen with Benjani and the team next season,” Hunt told Goal.

The veteran striker failed to revive his career at the Johannesburg club despite spending the entire season with them.

Mwaruwari played for Chippa United upon his return from Europe, but moved to Wits six months later to work with Hunt.

His lack of composure in front of goal saw him relegated to the bench, and the arrival of Sthembiso Ngcobo during the January Transfer Window made things worse for the 35-year-old striker.

‘Benjani’ is thought to be considering retirement from competitive football, but he is yet to make an official announcement regarding his next move. Goal.com
