Two Miss Zimbabwe finalists, Hilda Mabu (21) and Primrose Tshuma (21) – both from Harare -were yesterday booted out of camp for violating rules of the pageant.
The duo, who sneaked out of camp on Saturday night, was called for a disciplinary hearing yesterday morning before being disqualified.“I can confirm that the two girls were evicted following their misconduct in camp. They were fully aware of the rules that were written on their forms when they got into camp but they deliberately violated them,” said Miss Zimbabwe Trust Secretary Terry Bharu.
Bharu added that the Miss Zimbabwe Trust was maintaining a zero tolerance stance on misbehaviour.
“We spoke to Hilda and Primrose in the presence of other girls before we sent them home. This is because we do not tolerate such behaviour from any contestant no matter how promising she is. We are grooming a queen who is going to represent the country at higher and more important platforms so we want someone who is responsible,” she said.
She added that since the finalists got into camp, they assured their families that they were safe and they would not want the families to blame the pageant for any wrongs done during camp.
“We have called one of the girl’s relative to inform her of the development but we are still to get hold of the other model’s brother,” she said.
Mabu and Tshuma are not the first to be booted out as three more were sent home last week for not meeting the requirements of the pageant.
“When the girls are in camp, they undergo training and carry out various exercises in preparation for the pageant. When a finalist fails to grasp the fundamentals, we are with no option but to let her go,”
She added that in the end, they wanted to pull off a pageant of high standards.
After the disqualifications 15 contestants remain in camp and would be in the running for the Miss Zimbabwe 2014 title on Saturday. The pageant will be held at Mabvazuva Village. The Miss Zimbabwe pageant, which was last won by Bongani Dlakama, in 2012 returns after failing to take place last year.
