The late sungura music legend Leonard Dembo’s sons Morgan and Tendai are reported to have resolved their differences last Sunday and agreed to work together under a strict agreement brokered by their new manager Hope Makoni.
According to reports the two met with their manager and a promoter at a house in Greendale. Under the agreement Morgan was instructed to start learning to play instruments as a way of proving his commitment.
“I offered to teach Morgan how to play the guitar, but he has not yet expressed interest. The agreement is he has to play instruments so that it can be a concerted effort when we perform,” the younger brother Tendai said.
“We managed to release an album in his absence because I have learnt how to sing and likewise, he should also learn how to play the lead guitar. Imagine if I were to fall sick and there is no one to fill in the gap. It would be better to have Morgan play the guitar since it is also the trademark Dembo instrument.”
The new manager Hope Makoni is quoted by NewsDay saying:
“Morgan has been lacking commitment. So for now, we have agreed to move along with him as we also need his input in the band. We will be working with him, but until he proves he is committed.”
Barura Express, under the leadership of Tendai, released a new album two weeks ago titled Kupa kwaShe. Before the brothers’ split, Morgan was responsible for the lead vocals and many have agreed his voice needs a bit more of work to match their late father’s, while Tendai is a fiery lead guitarist.
