HARARE - All is not well in Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo’s Utakataka Express band. Moyo failed to show up at the recently held Soap and Shirt Winter Donation Festival at the Belgravia Sports Club in Harare where he was supposed to perform for charity because his band members refused to perform for free.

The Mushonga Mukuru hit-maker declined to comment, referring all the questions to his manager Sukol Dube whose mobile phone was unreachable.

The Daily News has been reliably informed that the band members refused to cooperate demanding their unpaid wages.

“Utakataka Express members teamed up to humiliate Peter by refusing to perform at the much-publicised charity event on Saturday as a way of showing their dissatisfaction with unpaid wages,” said an inside source.

“The refusal to perform was meant to push Peter to pay the members as they did not want to perform for free.”

Moyo’s band is failing to pull crowds as it used to do during his late dad’s heydays.

“Peter is struggling to maintain the band as it is too big for him,” said the source.

Generally, the showbiz industry is experiencing poor turnout, with the exception of big names such as Alick Macheso and Jah Prayzah.

Moyo was supposed to share the stage with Jah Prayzah, Cynthia Mare, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, BaShupi, Suluman Chimbetu, Leonard Zhakata, Pastor G, Dadza D and the Charambas among others. The event was organised by ZimRights in conjunction with The Women’s Trust and Batanai HIV and Aids Organisation to help Chingwizi flood victims and those from Tsholotsho and Muzarabani.
The artistes performed for free but they used the platform to give back to the society.

Leonard Zhakata and Zvakavapano-Mashavave told the Daily News that they were prepared to use their pocket money to pay their band members because the artistes believe in philanthropy.
