A Seke traditional healer is on the run following allegations that he shot dead his girlfriend in his Mercedes-Benz near Ziko Business Centre in Seke on Monday.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, was shot once behind the left ear with the bullet exiting on the other side, injuring her on the right shoulder after an alleged misunderstanding with David Muzenda.
Police from Mahusekwa and CID Marondera attended the scene yesterday.
Speaking to The Herald yesterday, Mr Richard Mutema, who lives next to Muzenda’s shrine, said the suspect spent most of the day at his shrine in the company of his five aides assisting patients up to around 12pm.
“He left alone at around 12pm driving his C240 Mercedes-Benz, registration number ACO 9129 and returned at around 4pm and parked the vehicle at the spot,” he said.
“He immediately left with his BMW X5 and never returned. The five aides are nowhere to be seen and I only know two known as Anthony and Chuma.”
Acting Chief Seke Mr Tichafa Kunaka said he had not yet heard of the news, but said he worked well with Muzenda.
Seke Ward 2 councillor Cde Masimba Rubatika said the incident had left Murisa villagers shell-shocked.
“He originated from Gokwe where his wives are said to live and had shrines at Kandava and Kamangira before settling in Murisa Village,” he said.
Muzenda’s lawyer, Mr Norman Mugiya, said he was aware of the incident, but had full instructions from his client not to divulge further information.
Police could not comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, a police constable based at Southerton Police Station, Harare, was yesterday morning killed by a suspected criminal he had cornered in Lochinvar.
The policeman, identified as Cst Brian Nyarutwa (25), was in the company of two colleagues – Cst Tawanda Mazhawidza (22) and Cst Simbarashe Sankulani (23) – and had been assigned to an area popularly known as the Green Trees to arrest suspected thieves who had stolen some tobacco bales.
This followed a report made by a man identified as Mr David Mandeya (42) of Waterfalls, who was alleging that he had lost some bales to thieves who had offloaded them at a tobacco auction floor in the Southerton area.
The incident occurred at around 2am in the Green Trees area, notorious for criminals who conduct deals mostly involving fuel and tobacco.
Police have since arrested the suspect, Paison Daka (28) of Taisekwa Housing Co-operative in Waterfalls, who was yesterday still assisting police with investigations.
Cst Nyarutwa was stabbed once in the left thigh, near the groin and lost a lot of blood. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Harare Central Hospital.
It is alleged that following a report, the three policemen – including Cst Nyarutwa – were assigned the task and they accompanied Mr Mandeya to the area in a bid to locate the thieves.
It is reported that Daka bolted out from his hideout and Cst Nyarutwa chased and caught up with him.
Daka allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Cst Nyarutwa once in the thigh.
He was taken to Harare Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri recently warned that the law would descend heavily on people who attack and kill police officers in the course of their duty.
He said it was unlawful to attack police officers going about their duties to maintain law and order.
In October last year, two Harare men who reportedly killed a police officer and robbed him of US$48 were arrested.
The two were Raymond Maguri (25) of house number 6640 Kuwadzana 5 and Alois Samuel (24) of Epworth.
In August 2012, a Chegutu policeman was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed his colleague with his service rifle for reportedly sympathising with a woman who wanted to lay indecent assault charges against him.
He was nabbed in Harare while trying to withdraw his July salary from a bank.
Police officers were paid on July 25, the same day that Cst Mindano Mindano was arrested.
