Whilst
the GNU period was one of extreme cold ,the present post election
period is undoubtedly a hot one. The temperatures are simply too high
,the shivering is too much and something must give.
On one hand exists a liberation movement mired in sclerotic battles of survival in the midst of a collapsing economy.
On the other hand the country's democratic forces are on auto pilot to self destruction. Reflecting traits and tendencies that make those who invented thuggery and exclusion look like angels.
Exhaustion is not the private property of the tired Liberation movements. Not at all. To the ordinary citizen ,the goings on are as inexplicable as they are unacceptable. Wananchi, the African is suffering in the motherland.
Indeed the citizen has come to terms with reality of utter undiluted failure. He has seen that failure through the medium of a hungry stomach ,joblessness ,poverty and collapsing social service delivery.
Amidst all this the citizen in the last few moths has been exposed to the ugly curves of avaricious consumerism. He has seen this through the lens of humongous salaries and lavish birthdays that defy description.
The citizen is in a trance, befuddled and harangued by the fast pace of destruction around same.
Totally bemused by the state of ague. All crises are man made and therefore avoidable and solvable.
The state of the State requires wisdom and men and women who can stand for our country ,for values and for principle. It is a time to rise above mobs and harems of national destruction. It is time this nation sat, reflected and came up with a common national vision that must guarantee the eternal survival of this country as nation state.
The country must never be exposed to the suspense of age and nature. The nation state must protect itself against selfishness and those capable of privatizing and nationalising the same.
The national vision must proposed must be anchored on mistrust. The belief and knowledge that the illusion ,hope and quest of power corrupts. That power itself really corrupts and that absolute power corrupts beyond reasonable doubt.
That being the case the only sustainable vision is one that accepts that men when given real power will turn into the monster of yesterday.
Thus the only way we can build trust in the national vision is to base it on mistrust. Total absolute mistrust. Secondly lets make the national constitution and every other constitution a living document.
We live in an era where little men have no respect for the rule of law and constitutions and rules are treated as inconveniences. In short constitutionalism must be breathed in dead constitutions.
Third ,let us build solid institutions, strong functional institutions. The Press, the Judiciary ,strong Trade Unions ,Business Unions, Strong Churches, and strong civic society.
Fourth let us create an accountable State. One where no one is above the law, where every individual is held accountable for his misdemeanours ,omissions and commissions. Impunity has killed this continent. People get away with murder.
They have no sense of proportion about their idiocy and crimes and believe like cats that they have nine lives. A functional state must be an accountable State run by citizens with a sense of proportion ,guilt and remorse.
Fifth lets build a society that creates equal opportunity for all. One s place must be determined by merit and not the colour of one s political card. Patronage and neo patrimonialism has killed this continent.
A society that recognises that men and women are equal. That women should be the owners and not objects of their own destiny. That nothing is about them, without them.
A society too, that recognises that we are all equal. That totems and dialects are artificial. That tribe and region are irrelevant. Partocracy ,nepotism, tribalism has been the yardstick of progress.
As a result the State has been a brothel of incestous liaisons and crony capitalism. Sixth let us built a society based on consensus. In short the Consensus State. In the consensus state dialogue ,tolerance and respect must be the order of the day.
In the Consensus State, violence must never be used as a means or vehicle of mediation or arbitration of any differences. Violence is the lowest and crudest form of human expression. It is a historic and prehistoric.
Sixth ,let us build a society capable of forgiveness and redemption. A society that does not ignore its past but learns from the same but does not hold hostage its future to a long gone past.
Above all let us build an empowered Society with an empowered citizen. One blessed with education ,good health, a functional inclusive economy.
Poverty creates a disempowered citizen. One that is excluded and powerless. One that speaks in whispers and is ridden like a donkey by every moronic politician.
Building an empowered economy is not easy but countries with less resources and bigger challenges have done it.
We can do it. We shall do it. We just have to pause for now and ask ,what is the ZIMBABWE WE WANT.
In my book, a GOD fearing equal society founded on freedom ,democracy ,justice ,equality ,fairness and the rule of law. One where the citizen is free to execute her pursuit of happiness .To pursue dreams and collective glory.
It can not be too much to ask for. Is it ?
