TENDAI Dembo, son of the late sungura great Leonard, has given his elder brother Morgan an ultimatum if he wants to work with him again. The two have been at loggerheads for several months with Morgan lately being sidelined.
Since they started following in their father’s footsteps a few years ago, Morgan appeared to be the more confident one leading the vocals, while Tendai, who like their father is a coy character, has been restricted to playing the guitar.
But Tendai on Saturday said he would not work with his brother again until he stops drinking.
The musician was speaking on the sidelines of a show at Buffalo Miller 24 in Marondera where he said his brother remained suspended.
“I will not be performing shows with Morgan as he is still on suspension. He should quit alcohol so that we will readmit him to the group,” Tendai said.
“The problem with him is that he cannot control himself after drinking, therefore, he has to quit alcohol.
“It is a code of conduct that applies everywhere. There is no company that allows anyone to come to work under the influence of alcohol and the same applies to our band.”
Tendai also spoke of his grandmother who was recently displaced by the floods at Tokwe Mukorsi.
He said they had been planning to relocate her even before the disaster.
“We had planned to relocate her to Chivhu, but unfortunately the disaster struck before we could do so. We are building a house for her in Chivhu which is now about to be completed,” Tendai said. “The challenge is it is difficult to convince old people to move. She is 80 years old and in her case, she wants to be compensated before she moves.”
Meanwhile, the musician had a tough outing with less than 100 people turning out for the show.
He performed alongside raunchy dancer Zoey Sifelani.
